Super Famicom Information
The Nintendo Super Famicom, or SFC, is the Japanese version of the Super Nintendo. The 16-bit console may have failed to reach the dizzy height of NES sales, but still dominated the games industry in Japan. There are thousands of games which were released only in Japan, and with their penchant for role playing games, the SFC has more available than for any other format.
The Super Famicom got many interesting peripherals in Japan. From card readers and disc back-up systems to the Satellaview modem. This allowed Japanese gamers to download games directly from Nintendo, and all over a decade before the Wii.
In 1997 Nintendo released the Super Famicom Junior, a re-styled and much smaller version of the original console. While America also got a revamped version of the Super Nintendo, unfortunately the UK and Europe never got a PAL version of the new machine.
