Boxed Famicom Games This section includes our boxed Famicom games. Typical for Nintendo formats, the boxes are generally cardboard with plastic in-trays and seperate instructions.
Unboxed Nintendo Famicom Games This section features all our unboxed Famicom games. Thanks to the vast majority of Famicom releases never being released in the West, titles are often very hard to translate.
Famicom Information
The Famicom is the Japanese version of the Nintendo NES. It looks very different to the NES, with its shiny controllers hardwired into the console, it's top loading cartridge slot and odd red dust flap. The cartridges are different too, around half the size of the NES, though the cartridge slot connector is the same.
Understandably many collectors want to play Famicom games on their Nintendo NES. This is trickier than you may think, particularly if you have a UK machine. There are 'Famicom to Nes' adaptors but they are very hard to find. Some early NES releases actually used NES adaptors inside the cartridge with the Famicom circuit board plugged into that.
In the UK and Europe, the easiest way to play Famicom games is by using one of the hundreds of different Pirate versions of the console. Thanks to the widespread piracy in Asia and the Middle East, these machines were produced with a PAL TV signal, and in most cases an additional AV Out socket, making them far easier to use than even the original Japanese machine. Check our Nintendo Hardware section for available machines.
