Acetronic Information
This is a story of related brands. Acetronic and Prinztronic consoles are branded varieties of consoles made by the Hong Kong manufacturer, Radofin. To confuse matters further, there are also consoles released under the Radofin brand. The most common UK console in this series is the Acetronic MPU-1000. There is also a slightly updated version, the MPU-2000 and the Radofin branded 1292.
The Radofin fountain (left) is the Australian version of the console, but another close relation is much more common. The Acetronic MPU series uses identical hardware to the Grundig Interton, but before you think about inter-changing games between systems, the cartridge ports are purposely not the same size so games do not fit. A strange thing about the Acetronic and Interton consoles is that the software has to be loaded from the cartridges using a 'Load' button on the machine.
Just in case you weren't confused enough about the Acetronic consoles, there is another type, based on the AY-3-8710 chip set. This 1975 hardware powered countless late 1970s consoles. These included machines by Grandstand, Ingersoll, Voltmace and the Teleng Colourstars. They also included the Acetronic and Prinztronic Telesports series, and Prinztronic Superstar and Micro 5500 consoles. For these machines there is another small series of cartridges, each using a different chip from the series. Commonly these are sports (Pong), Racing, Breakout and a combat style tank game.
